So as has been talked about in my posts over the last few weeks some changes are occurring to the site very soon, hopefully in the next few days.
Firstly I added a new article today to help people upgrade to a suitable computer for RetroCopy if they have a very old one :-
http://www.retrocopy.com/articles/build-your-own-pc.aspx
The other website changes will occur before the new release simply because we have to test the "working togetherness" of it all and it should present some fun things for those of you who are frequent refreshers of retrocopy.com .
The site will also be shutdown at some point in order to implement changes to the user database (can't have new people signing up when I'm converting it), though it would only be at most for 30 minutes. What changes are happening to users? Well basically a new point system (RetroPoint has been bandied about) is being introduced as a way to reward heavy contributors.
Now don't become too jaded, this won't be like other sites with their ridiculous points that mean nothing. So how will we reward them? I'm not 100% sure yet, but while we figure that issue out we might as well let people accrue them.
There have been some interesting ideas put out there about how to let people use them. I know a few ways they will be used that everyone will like but I won't go into it until it's ready. You will get points for posting reviews/stories on games (2 points), being the top ranked story/review (1 point per day) and for forum posting (1 point).
The biggest change however will be the new game database and it is looking really good. Tommy has been having a fun holiday entering game data and should be congratulated by all for his heavy work when it is finally unveiled. I really get burnt out working on web design as it takes all my creativity away I notice, but in the end it's worth it for the users.
