Who said video games don't make you creative?

They say video games rob people of their creativity, well retro games don't because you still had to use your imagination! Anyhow a status update on the new version, everything is rolling along very nicely for a release in the upcoming week.

I took a screenshot of the reviews being shown in RetroCopy, it probably won't look exactly like this at release but I think it's pretty cool anyhow.

I had to design a neat little http downloader that queues up items and passes them back to the GUI when its ready, in essence RetroCopy is now like a little web browser. Firefox watch out! ;) There is very little delay because the RetroCopy web server is quite fast. It only takes about a half second for the info to display, less if you live in the USA.

Ideas for the RetroPoints are starting to flow in so make sure you grab them early (posting reviews is the only current way to make them). It is likely RetroCopy v0.800 will start using them for some cool features. Many of the reviews people have done already are fantastic reading and I'm sure there are more of you out there holding onto a memory or two about these games. :)

The information RetroCopy took for that screenshot can be seen here online too, along with some fancy screenshots :-

With all those *nice* online-features in RetroCopy i sometimes wonder what it shows if the Server is down. Hopefully not an empty page. Ever thought about that? :D

I don't think the server has been done for even an hour (combined downtime) during for the ~7 months its been up. Covers will be saved to the hard drive because they are big, but the other information is small and can always be retrieved online.

Can you explain why things need to download why not store it all on your hard drive. And why would it be faster in the USA, don't you live in Australia to.

Because the online content is dynamic, the reviews, recommendations all can change, so there isn't much point in storing it. The RetroCopy server is based in the USA so it should only be about a 50-100ms delay in retrieving the content if you live there, which isn't much slower than a hard drive.
