Here is another video showcasing off a bit more of the RetroCopy 3D engine. This has 20 virtual machines running, and 20 dynamic lights.

The 3D sound engine is nearly completed and I will put up a video showcasing that when it is finished in the next few days.

Impressive..

Which configuration is this demo running on?

(Because i can't edit my post..)

I saw some configuration on your post before this one..

INTEL-I7-??, -ATI-4870-1gb- <

Will 8GB memory on 64bit windows7 a difference to only 4GB..

It's an I7 920 @ 4GHz, hyperthreading enabled and 6GB of RAM in triple channel mode. Graphics card is ATI 4870 with 1GB VRAM at default clocks. There is still quite a bit of performance I can push with optimization, but for now I just have to concentrate on getting features done.

There won't be that big a difference going over 4GB RAM unless we are talking about going from double channel to triple channel memory (I7 platform), in which case it may give you a bit of a boost. 4GB is really the minimum you want for general x64 Windows performance though, because the OS loads both the 32bit and 64bit libraries which consume vast amounts of RAM.

My I7 can currently run 25-30 SMS/NES virtual machines at 100% original speed, but the 4870 can only have 16 dynamic lights at passable performance, you can see in the demo with 20 lights that it's starting to go under 20fps. As I said though there is room for improvement with optimizations for both the emulation side and graphics side. RetroCopy is running those machines at the highest accuracy you can get anywhere at moment, for a demo showcasing many machines running that needs to be highlighted I think.

If you're upgrading a computer and interested in RetroCopy performance first concentrate on the CPU (quad core minimum) then the GPU.

Steep requirements, eh? How about a Core 2 Quad?

You're probably looking at 12-15 virtual machines on a 3.2GHz quad. The I7 family is nearly two years old now, but even with a cheap Intel or AMD quad core you're still looking at a pretty decent "arcade".

Within 2 years we all have better equipment for Retroralphs "RetroCopy 2.000".. ;)

I expect "better than Crysis" graphics then.
