The big secret

So the last week has seen A LOT of stuff added to RetroCopy but the title of this post is a bit misleading as it is hardly the biggest of things I've been working on. Nonetheless it's also something cool.

Now what is this showing? Well for those non Futurama fans out there it's showing an AVI video being rendered inside the RetroCopy world. The idea being that you can add your selected videos you want to the appropriate directory and load them onto RetroCopy TV's. It uses the same ROM browser you're familiar with now, instead of selecting say Megadrive you select "videos".

Since it uses the same code behind the popular VLC media player it runs nearly everything you can throw at it, including flash videos as far as I'm aware, so maybe youtube support isn't far away :P . I still have to hook the audio engine up but that should be a breeze now thanks to the audio rewrite I have already done.

As to the other things I've been working on, I guess that's what release videos are for.

Wow! I wasn't expecting this feature until quite a while from now. Yet, here you are constantly surprising us. Excellent work as always!

Nostalgia to the max! As far as I know, VLC supports html streams. People could watch videos on a multiplayer server simultaneously.

Very cool :D

i have very crazy ideas about super video filter NTSC and PAL, if it possible do.

Video with quality 480x240 with speed 60FPS for NTSC and 50FPS for PAL, movie try to record VDP image of game and quickly convert into video with bitrate 2000Kb/s and send movie into screen instead VDP graphic.

In result we get picture of real old tv: http://s58.radikal.ru/i159/1007/90/ef74837a0403.jpg

Or different filters depending on which TV you use.

As much as the 3d room thing is neat, I hate to say it but i'm already sitting in a room, a room within a room is not that appealing and I'd much prefer emulation progress to the front end progress.

But clearly i'm a minority on that so I will just leave and seek out a project that actually progresses the emulation scene.

sayargh, The 3d room is just one of the things that makes RetroCopy stand out from other emulators. The idea is to recreate the classic gaming environment. No other emulator can "emulate" the curvature of an old TV screen as well as RC can. No other emulator can let you run multiple games in a single instance.

The 3D Game Room is a definite "selling" point, because it brings on the possibility of customization. No other emulator has that.

That plus
*User Friendly
*Cycle-Accurate Emulation
*Multi-System Support
*High Quality Sound Engine
*Automatically downloadable screenshots/boxart/info.

It's not even version 1 yet, and it is already a must-have emulator.

Some people just want simple emulators to use because that is what they are used to. The resizeable window, file menu, etc. I was thinking of making a version of RetroCopy like that to please those people (mostly homebrew developers and testers).

@Sayargh v0.800 has added three new arcade systems and improvements to GG/SMS/NES/MEGADRIVE. Not sure what sort of emulation progress you are expecting beyond these sorts of things. :)
