Turning Sega Megadrive into Sega Master System

I've pretty much finished all the new shader and graphics filter related code but thought I would show off one that can turn 16bit games into 8bit ones.

There are now about 12 CPU filters you can apply to the emulator (HQ2X-4X,HQFAST2X-4X, SCALE2X-4X, PIXEL2X-4X) and about 15 GPU shader filters. Two of the GPU filters allow you to reduce colors, basically letting newer games look more like old ones. Here are some examples, all taken from Sega Genesis/Megadrive.

These ones are limited to 18 colors max

This one is limited to 32 colors max (similar to Sega Master System output)

All the filters work on movies too of course.

I know usually the aim of filters is to improve image quality but what's the harm in making games look even older than they are! ;)

So looking more like 8bit isn't the same as improving image quality? I don't understand ... :)
