So tonight I have some work in progress screenshots of the new GAME browser interface I've been working on. Something I have wanted to improve for a while but lacked the motivation to do it, but after a chat with Tommy I was inspired.

RetroCopy might be the most accurate emulator for most of the systems it covers but I have also been hiding some of its flexibility from the user. Why would I do that? Well mainly because it takes time to add the interface to allow it. I have been moving onto a new way to do input mapping (due to a soon to be talked about enhancement of input) and one of these improvements is to have images of the actual controllers while you are configuring input. This in turn led me to look at how I display the input in the game browser as rather limiting. So now you can visually see what console and controllers you will be using when you start the game, among the other features the game enables (FM, 3D glasses, etc).

Instead of hiding all of RetroCopy's power, I will allow it to be used. What is this power? Well for one, being able to plug in a variety of input devices independent of what the game actually uses. Want to see how a Sega Master Game works with a genesis controller? Well you can try it now, as you can also plugging in a card game and cartridge at the same time. I basically want to maximize what people can play with allowing them the same flexibility as a real system. On the other hand I don't want to burden casual users with all that power, so to the rescue comes the RetroCopy .GAME format, which allows me the flexibility to auto select the right devices, allowing easy play.

I have moved about the interface and reduced clutter, making it more visual and showing less text by default, hiding the options to little tabs you can easily get to. It also means you can get a better feel for each system. RetroCopy just doesn't try to blindly add systems in the name of having a big system list, everything in it has a lot of TLC that you usually don't get with multisystem emulators. Now in v0.900 it will just be more obvious.

I definitely agree and love the new, more graphical look. Perhaps there should be 3D representations of the consoles(like the boxart) in a later version.

3D models of everything would be nice (mainly for the 3D room) but not really possible at this stage due to lack of artists. There will always be a 2D representation of the items for the game browser I feel as it just condenses a lot better and allows you to get a better feel for the system with a quick glance.

I've updated the main pictures now that I've mostly finished the structure of it. The cartridge pictures will be shown now too. And I got rid of the "start" button. Now you click the consoles power button (or double click the game like usual) to start it.

this is what I was wanting months ago, fantastic, I have a vision of where this can go in the future, I'll send you some concepts if I ever get the time.
