I've been fiddling around with RetroCopy again now that I have finished most of my work on the website. Ah it's great getting back to real coding, what can I say, web development makes me appreciative of what I do.

I've been adding a benchmark feature to RetroCopy to help me out with performance optimizations. At the moment with a 3GHz CPU you would be looking at getting around 250-300fps with full cycle accuracy in the Master System emulation. However my recent I7 acquisition has me wondering about the best CPU to use with it. I am a big supporter of AMD even though my recent purchases have been Intel, so I hope I can get a few testers with AMD CPUs to give me some feedback. I have a feeling the AMDs might be doing better per cycle than the Intel chips, we will have to wait and see, but I have seen this in the past.

There is still some optimization work which can be done in RetroCopy's cores, but at the moment there are in a very nice state for tweaking which is what I need. Originally I had a very tightly wound emulation which was hard to tweak but ran faster, about 20% faster than it does now. Once the emulation is as close to perfect as I can get it I will likely use my old optimizations again. This has no relevance to the accuracy of RetroCopy, it is simply a programming issue.

I will be posting a new YouTube video soon showing the Nintendo emulation and some other features of RetroCopy like the benchmark. So stay tuned.
