Game Gear and SMS Progress

I've been working with Tommy on Game Gear over the last few days to get the compatibility rate up to 100%, and that includes working gear-to-gear. Of course I also discovered a few more issues that affect SMS.

The screenshot above shows the scaling effect for "SMS Mode" games that came as actual Game Gear cartridges. Because the Game Gear only has a resolution of 160x144 for it's LCD display it has to scale down the SMS resolution (usually 256x192) to a smaller resolution. And in the process it does a few funny things to the colors. It's hard to know if the effect is entirely accurate, but if you don't like it, you can just show the full display of the SMS mode games (something you can't do on a real GG).

There have been a few minor bugs fixed in the SMSVDP that affect both GG and SMS cores in RetroCopy. We have effectively 100% tested compatibility rate for Game Gear now, along with SMS.

I've also completed the moving house process, so it's full steam ahead now until a minor release before v1.0 is out.

If anyone wonders: I would say the Game Gear compability rate was about 90% before. The SMS-mode games didn't work, the games that uses the Codemasters-mapper didn't work, and many games that can be played by two players using Gear-to-Gear didn't work as well as a few other games (due to various reasons). All of this has been fixed now and all Game Gear games now play like they would on a real Game Gear!

@micky, yes very likely, just some time after v1.0 . It helps when you have someone to work with and test all the games that are included in the database. Saves a lot of time on my end finding any niggling issues and then testing to see if they are gone.

Sasha and me have written a post in genesis section with last bugs remaining.
I can be a beta tester if you need to test fix on genesis core before public release.

Those bug reports are very helpful guys. When I do fix the remaining Genesis/Mega Drive games will be helpful having people around to test changes too. So we can coordinate that when the time is right.
