I try and help out otherswhen I can but it gets to me when people are so quick to give charity to countries like Haiti. It actually increases death and destruction in the long term.

1) Haiti population growth has been over the world average for decades. Total population more than doubling since 1972.
2) The current world average for population growth is 1.17%, Haiti is 1.74%, 50% higher.
3) The world gives Haiti 25% of its economy in financial aid
4) Food aid to Haiti has skyrocketed over the last few decades which has coincided with increased birth rates.
5) Deforestation due to high population is a massive issue making the land barren for everyone.

The world bank and other global organizations are partly to blame for Haitis current predicament in regards to unemployment. However it is obvious that the country cant support itself in food at the 1970s population let alone the current one. The more people give them in charity the more population will be there in a few years leading to more death when another accident happens.

I know people that donate are doing it for the right reasons but if they actually thought about it helping more people survive right now is doing them more long term harm. I think the population level in Haiti needs to stabilize and they need to take back control of the country from foreign investors.

Natural events like the one that have occurred give the country more breathing room in regards to over population, but the rest of the world should stop giving them aid. If they did this in the 70s only a few thousand people would have suffered, today over 5 million will, thanks to charity that people have given them. If we keep on this path then in the future when something really bad happens there may be 10 million people that die.

You have to feel something for Haiti as the people there lead such harsh lives. What's best for Haiti is probably something that can be discussed for millions of hours, I probably agree with what you are saying in some ways. You can't exactly say to the 5? million people created since the 70s that they shouldn't have been born though, so what do you do?

Humans don't really have the capability to empathize for people that don't exist yet, so I don't expect charity or aid to stop anytime soon. People just do what they think is good and hope the future solves the existing problems.
