I just found out about RetroCopy and I really want to give it a try. However I cannot find a clear list of the games supported by this emu. Lot of us ( I suppose ) use clrmame pro for rom management. Do you provide dat files for RetroCopy? So we can build a complete romset for this emulator?

Best Regards,

I'm not sure that is necessary, most console sets out there (GoodTools, No-Intro) should work fine once converted to the GAME format, even if Retrocopy's scan doesn't identify the games.

The only problem I can foresee is that MAME may change the sets of the arcade games emulated by Retrocopy in the future, and then people could be confused as to what version of the romsets to use. But then, I guess Ralph would add the updated sets to Retrocopy.

If you want to check your GG, SMS, Genesis and NES roms you can use individual datafiles from No-Intro, I'm not sure the GoodTools dats are still being updated, nobody seems to be using them anymore.

There are DAT files for RC, Tommy has been bugging me to have an option which shows the complete set so people can see what they don't have.

RetroCopy is a bit different in that we only selectively include some homebrew/hacks/translation to be included, depending upon how "good" they are. For instance there are over 25 versions of a specific homebrew game for Sega Master System, these 25 versions are all pretty much the same with only minor changes. In instances like these we just keep the best version (and any major revisions) and update it if necessary (if author releases better version). Perfectionist rom collectors usually want them all.

We are mainly interested in the official cartridge releases during the time period of the console and all versions of those are included. The homebrew/hack/translation/protos are selective. That said you can still run the stuff we don't include in the DATs as Neville pointed out.

Just to elaborate a bit further - if the homebrew/hack/translation is (almost) finished and playable, it is added to the database. The things that are not included are unfinished/unplayable stuff, usually with lots of bugs. Or, like Ralph said, if there are 250 versions of the same game, you wouldn't want to have all 250 versions of it. So only the important versions are added - usually just the last (best). The goal is not to include only the very best, but to exclude the worst. And by "worst" I don't mean boring, because the game is about dressing dolls and feeding them, but stuff that noone in the world would find interesting - like just a text that says "Hello World". It has to be something more than that to be included in the RC-database.
