I'm sorry if this is the wrong forum to post this in, but I just wanted to say that RetroCopy is the easiest emulator to use that I've ever encountered, and I've been into emulators for a decade! It's such a relief to finally be able to use an emulator that Just Works, rather than having to mess with configuration files. :-)

RC is a testament to what a decently-funded emulation effort can do, it's nice to see from the from page that there are some pros out there tackling classic emulation.

On that note, as of this June I'll have 5 years of industry experience under my belt; if it's not prying too much, may I ask how many people you have on your staff? You've got to have at least a designer and an artist - if not, RC is even more impressive!

Hi and thanks, usually when such a positive message is given I am suspicious of it but I'll take it on face value. :)

You'll have 5 years of what industry? Programming? Have you got any projects you've worked on? It is mainly me working on RetroCopy but a few others have helped a lot too, Tommy has put in hundreds of hours helping out with databases, covers and things like this. And their is also the testers.

I've studied a lot on user interfaces so I try to make the experience as nice as possible on that front.

Sorry, I should have been clearer - the gaming industry, as a programmer. Historically, I've worked on such games as the X360 port of Superman Returns, back when I worked at EA, but since changing jobs I've been largely under NDA, though that'll eventually be changing.

I don't have a whole lot of public code, unfortunately, insofar as most of my hobby coding consists of coming in on weekends to do job-relevant coding, which can't be released for obvious reasons. :)

For what it's worth, if you ever decide to take on the Philips CD-i, I'd be glad to help. One of my goals in the next 1-5 years is full and accurate emulation of the console, since neither of the pre-existing emulators are any good. From a hardware standpoint it'd be a fun challenge, as it runs on a custom, amped-up version of the Motorola 68000 with on-board peripherals and different cycle counts, and has at least two microcontrollers with read-protected internal ROM. The latter two are the most interesting two me, as I plan to look into how much it'd cost to have two early-to-mid-90's-era microcontrollers de-packaged and optically or electronically read out.

Ah cool. One day I want to make games (I have already, but nothing completed that was good). I imagine settling down on a farm, writing games in my spare time and relaxing. ;)

I have been blending my game programming knowledge into RetroCopy a little and more of this will be seen in the coming versions. To do something like RetroCopy on your own you need to have quite a lot of varied skills, which usually means you can't be the best at any of them but I try my best. If you have done game programming you are likely familiar with the wearing of many hats. But I prefer doing lots of different things compared to say writing a spreadsheet or something.

It's taken about 3 years to do what I've done, though I've only been serious about it in the last year or so, the first 18 months or so I was working on the GUI code. I wasn't going to be doing what RetroCopy became until some ideas I had made it very interesting for me to tackle it. Originally I was just planning to do a GUI that I was going to sell but a better idea came along I guess. ;)

The GUI is one of the biggest advantages I have in RetroCopy I feel, but I haven't really exploited it much yet, when it becomes multiplatform it will be more obvious. If you want to start writing the accurate Philips CD-I code for RetroCopy go ahead :P, I was thinking of allowing a plugin based way for others to contribute emulators if they wanted and I have designed it internally in this manner. But as of yet I haven't really talked about or promoted it, mostly because anyone with the time to do these things is a highly skilled person usually short on time.
