Who here plays MK, particularly Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3?

I've got the game-gear Mortal Kombat. I think it was kinda disappointing, so i've avoided the others, but i might give the other ones a pop.

I would stay away from the console and handheld versions of MK. None of the really come close to the quality of the arcade. UMK3 is the most competitive of all of them, though MK2 is certainly no slouch.

I've always had a soft spot for the 16 bit conversion s of "Mortal Kombat II". Graphics and gameplay-wise it's the best in the whole series.

The SNES conversion of MK2 was almost spot on with the arcade version. Very hard to tell the difference, at least I thought so 15 years ago or so.

The Genny one was definitely better than the MK1 port, but not as good as SNES graphics/sound wise.

Yep, but the problem with the SNES versions is that I think all of them are censored, whereas SEGA versions, albeit lesser, aren't.

I'm told SEGA's advertising at the time used this topic to ridicule Nintendo.

The SNES version of MK2 had blood didn't it? It was only the first one that didn't, and the Genesis version didn't either unless you entered the unlock code (better than nothing). It was surprising how much the blood added to MK1, it seemed soul-less on the SNES.

Funny how there was so much uproar about Mortal Kombat (it triggered all that government backlash in the USA) yet games these days make it look like Barbies Vacation in regards to violence.

the SNES and Genesis versions of MK, MK2, MK3 and UMK3 all have very different properties than the arcade counterparts. The SNES MK2 is the most faithful conversion of all of them though.

Agree about the MK2 on SNES being best. MK2 was probably the best mortal kombat I think. MK3 seemed to goo too far from the roots of the game and my interest dropped off with it.

Actually, the 32X version has Better graphics than the SNES, even though the music is not the best of them.

Still, the Arcade versions are much much much better. I was surprised when I played them a while ago, didnt thought they had that much detail.

yeah I would say that for MK2 it goes something like

SNES < Genesis < 32X < Saturn < Arcade

Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and Mortal Kombat Trilogy for the Sega Saturn are also stunning games. That system had probably had more faithful arcade ports than any console before or since.
