Off topic but since the BYUU "competition" he started with Ralph Ive been noticing with every BSNES release there is another bugfix release a day or two later. He doesn't appear to be testing his builds in his hurry to get them out. He also seems to be releasing a lot recently like he is taking this whole thing to seriously... he should slow down and start testing his public builds so that people dont lose faith in him.

he's always had a rapid release schedule, if you look at the version number, you'll see it hasn't reached a 1.0 release, neither has retrocopy, they are both in beta.

byuu isn't doing things any differently than usual but he does add lots of features fairly quickly. I don't see anything wrong with the way he is doing things.

I don't see any competition between them yet either. byuu has continued his emulator as usual and retroralph hasn't released a line of SNES code so as far as I can tell there isn't any competition.

Furthermore what does this post accomplish?

Does this forum allow blatant flaming and trolling?

I created an off topic forum to move this post to....

Not everyone has a testing procedure for their public work so that is just part and parcel of what programmers do. It's also hard to find good testers too. But what he does is free so he can release whatever he wants when you think about it.

Well there is some friendly competition there between byuu and myself. I believe byuu is afraid of becoming obsolete. Which is fine, if I had 5 years of work I also wouldn't want it to become obsolete.

My only concern with byuu is how he says two opposing things when it comes to other programmers doing SNES emulation. But maybe that is just his personality that he changes his mind a lot.

I don't see any personal attack in his post so I'm not really sure what you are referencing. Sure the tone is a little aggressive but if you see much offense in that I think you need to take a step back.

I just dont think he should be releasing so many untested builds out to the public. If it was a once off I wouldnt care but every release is followed by another bugfix release. Imagine if every emulator author did this the news would be irrelevant.

I also think the amount of releases he has been doing over the last few months has been more than he has ever done before, and due to all the bugs its obvious he is doing too much. I think he has taken his his little chat with ralph too seriously, its just my opinion.

Different people have different views on the subject, some want lots of releases with tiny updates and don't care about bugs, others want significant features and lots of testing. So there is always going to be people on both sides of this one.

I'm sure as byuu gets more experience releasing software this kind of thing won't happen so much. There is an old saying, "you aren't learning if you aren't making mistakes!" :)

Does anyone even use bsnes for it to matter? Its a horrible emulator to use. I cant wait for retrocopy to support Super nes as its a nice emulator to use. Until then I have zsnes.

Indeed. I don't see the problem in the release style.

Exactly. AFAIK, RetroRalph made it clear his emu does focus primarily on z80 based systems since he has a cycle accurate core for that. Steve Snake appears to have one similar in accuracy, and in ASM too, from what he says. And since thier cores are so well refined, its pretty simple to reuse them for other systems I guess.

I admit, this forum does indeed seem extremely hostile towards other emulators that do not follow RetroCopy's design ideals (and there was a lot of infighting regarding the ethics behind the approaches in how to emulate IIRC). But thats to be expected I guess. And if emulator devs can't handle flak from people, they can get out of the kitchen I suppose.
