It's fun getting to know games you haven't played before, and for the last few days I've gotten to know Global Defense. Although the game is a bit repetitive and all the levels are more or less the same, it's still an allright game. The flashing in the opening sequence and when the earth is destroyed is really cool, especially if you're sitting in a dark room. And the music for this game is really brilliant! The person who did the music for this game really put his soul into it: the game over-music must be the longest in any SMS-game!

It takes a bit of time to get used to the controls in this game, and at first it feels very annoying that you have to move two things around at the same time - both yourself and where you aim. You will get used to this after a while, though. The game is still quite hard, especially the "defensive half", and you need a lot of practice in order to get good at it. I guess I haven't practiced enough since I'm not that good yet, and I only manage to get to the third level (without cheating). This seems to be a game where the score is the most important thing though, which can explain the very repetitive levels. I guess it wouldn't hurt if they had let the game be a bit more variated.

Two pads
The game is easier if you use two Control Pads. To play with two Control Pads, press and hold RIGHT on Control Pad 2, and press BUTTON2 two times. Playing with two Control Pads is very difficult at first, but once you get used to it, it will boost your scores greatly.

Global Defense Trivia

Are emulators like RetroCopy breaking the law?

No! The cold hard facts are there are numerous laws in place that make emulators 100% legal - as they should be! In the past a few companies have unsuccessfully threatened and taken other companies that have made emulators to court , trying to bully them out of their way. They have always lost because it is illegal to force a monopoly.

The only gray area in regards to emulators are when people pirate the games to use in emulators. However in this day and age you can cheaply and easily buy the original games online (EBAY) or at markets and legally use them in emulators. Not only that but there are also plenty of 100% free software/games (homebrew) available.

Some companies may want you to believe you have to keep buying the same game over and over again to legally play it but this is not true. These companies are laughing all the way to the bank as they slug their loyal fans multiple times for the exact same product.

How do I play this game in RetroCopy?

If you already own the original cartridge/disk/etc then you can look to Download Global Defense

If you purchase it on Wii Virtual Console (VC) or XBOX Live Arcade (XBLA) you can still legally download it. The reason for this is due to laws which allow you to backup software that you purchase.

Is this game available on Wii Virtual Console?

If you want to play classic games you should choose the most accurate emulator available to ensure you get an authentic experience. In this case RetroCopy is a lot more accurate than Virtual Console so we recommend using RetroCopy when you can.
