The residents of the once-peaceful city of Yuria have lost the legendary Golden Axe - the very thing that had shielded them from evil for so long. It is now in the hands of the unscrupulous titan, Death-Adder. Tarik, the seasoned warrior whose skill with his giant sword is both praised and feared throughout the land, has come forth to try and wrest the Axe from the grasp of the black-hearted warlord. Help Tarik to battle the many types of bandits that Death-Adder has amassed to protect himself. Using the sword, and certain very special magical powers, guide Tarik through the gauntlet of bandits to Death-Adder's castle! He'll be waiting there for you, and he's terribly reluctant to give up the Golden Axe! Are you brave enough to bring back the Axe, and thus restore tranquility to Yuria, or will you wind up just another victim of the evil warlord?

Ah, Golden axe, one of the absolute best games on the Megadrive/Genesis, when i heard that there was a Master-System version, I was overjoyed. Mistake.
The once great music has been ruined by tuning it down to Master-System quality, it seems like a the music was ripped, then sent through an audio filter.
The Graphics, admittedly looked a bit wishywashy (the palette) on its 16-bit counterpart, but they look like a 6 year old crayoned it in while half asleep, and they are obviously missing animation frames.
The gameplay is its only redeeming factor, it retains the hack and slash style of the Arcade original, and is admittedly, quite fun.
Great opportunity, Ruined.

GRAPHICS
This game uses background tiles for some of the characters instead of using sprites. This allowed it to show more characters on the screen without flicker, however it also limited movement and animation potential as the game had to redraw background tiles on the fly (erase the background tiles where the character was, then redraw it).
Are emulators like RetroCopy breaking the law?
No! The cold hard facts are there are numerous laws in place that make emulators 100% legal - as they should be! In the past a few companies have unsuccessfully threatened and taken other companies that have made emulators to court , trying to bully them out of their way. They have always lost because it is illegal to force a monopoly.
The only gray area in regards to emulators are when people pirate the games to use in emulators.
However in this day and age you can cheaply and easily buy the original games online (EBAY) or at markets and legally use them in emulators.
Not only that but there are also plenty of 100% free software/games (homebrew) available.
Some companies may want you to believe you have to keep buying the same game over and over again to legally play it but this is not true. These companies are laughing all the way to the bank as they slug their loyal fans multiple times for the exact same product.
How do I play this game in RetroCopy?
If you already own the original cartridge/disk/etc then you can look to Download Golden Axe
If you purchase it on Wii Virtual Console (VC) or XBOX Live Arcade (XBLA) you can still legally download it. The reason for this is due to laws which allow you to backup software that you purchase.
Is this game available on Wii Virtual Console?
If you want to play classic games you should choose the most accurate emulator available to ensure you get an authentic experience.
In this case RetroCopy is a lot more accurate than Virtual Console so we recommend using RetroCopy when you can.
